and so that was Christmas

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

Well Christmas is over. Boxing day has been and now the 27th is done too. I’d never have thought that Christmas could be so exhausting. Both girls have been sick, Nannies been as rough as a dog, Grandad’s not been that good either and to be honest I’m glad it’s over and there’s a bit of me that can’t wait to get back to work. What sort of Dad does that make me?

Anyway here I am typing this on Mary’s iPhone whilst thinking about the goat the kids bought me. The wonders of technology. we bought a goat online at oxfam that will benefit a family in another county and I’m writing about it on a phone.

So here’s a good bye to all thoughts of work and to a better tomorrow.

Away in a manager

Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat and I cant feel the Bah Humbug in me growing every day.  Christmas is not my most favorite time of year.  It’s not my least but it’s not one that I look forward to.  Although every year it is getting better and better.  I think it’s a combination of Christmas Eve in the pub with the Father-in-Law, moving in to the in laws for 3 days of spoiling, rugby on Boxing Day and two little girls who are the most excitable people ever.

I think it has something to do with Mary loving Christmas that the girls love it to.  This morning Rose announced that she was going to creep downstairs and surprise Father Christmas as she really wanted to meet him.  Violet just stood there and grinned.  I wasn’t sure if it was because she was excited or because they had both joined me in the toilet.  I didn’t see any tears in their eyes so I put it down to excitement.

I left the house to the sound of Away in a Manager and the knowledge that every child has a beautiful voice, and when a child sings every adult goes stone deaf.

This year Christmas may be the best one yet. We wait and see.  That is if I manage to find something for Mary’s Christmas present!
