Anyone who’s never been to a parish PCC meeting will no doubt have visions of the Vicar of Dibley TV series and to be honest you’re not far wrong. In many ways our PCC is very much the same, although I am not going to draw parallel’s between people on the PCC and characters in the show and fortunately we don’t have to endure lemon curd and tomato ketchup cake.
However this has to be one of most frustrating meetings that I have the pleasure of attending. If I am honest I hate going to, come away feeling exhausted and am looking forward to stepping down which hopefully will be this year. It requires the tenacity to work out what needs doing now, next month or in 6 months time which is usually the time it takes for the PCC to make a decision and at the same time listening to what God is saying to our church and doing in our community.
Yet all the while you are aware that it is a thankless job which you will undoubtedly upset someone along the way who would have preferred the church to be blue or doesn’t like the new seats, hymns, service, etc, etc and feels it is their right to moan about it but not their duty to be part of the PCC and help.
Having said all that I am thankful for the hard work that each member of the PCC team puts in that keeps our church running, that keeps the message of the love of God alive and keeps our church in the center of our community and an active part of it.
